Alex Perry is a punk creative technologist and circuit bender working under the moniker Get Circuit Bent.

Alex was born and raised in the Rocket CityHuntsville, Alabamawhere he was first drawn to the idea of engineering as an artistic rather than pragmatic practice. Early efforts included simple robots, rocketry, and incorporating basic circuitry into plastic models and dioramas.

He pursued Interdisciplinary Studies at the University of Alabama’s New College, focusing on Creative Composition and Electrical Engineering. He went on to earn a Masters in Technical Communications.

After pursuing circuit bending in earnest during the pandemic, Alex left the deep south for California. In 2023, he became disabled from a series of strokes that left him with significant brain damage. Initially part of the rehab process, art became a vital outlet for exploring and adjusting to the limitations and new frameworks imposed by his disability.

Alex’s work is best described as “techno-bricolage.”  Utilizing a combination of glitch/video art, sculpture, and circuit bending, he repurposes obsolete/discarded/broken electronics and other ephemera, reframing them as functional, artistic objects.

Alex lives in Oakland with his creative/life partner Leah, several cats, and an extremely doofy dog. Together, they make up Get Circuit Bent.
